Where to insert your keywords?
Today’s topic is a little bit short but it is still an important topic for people who are doing SEO. I just want to share my opinions about keywords optimization on the websites.
Here is the list of place you probably should insert your keywords:
- Page Description
- Page Title
- Body Content
- Header Tags
- Formatted Text
- Links
- URL
- Graphics
You definitely could do keywords insertion for all the pages while we should understand the essential meaning of doing keywords optimization first.
First thing, the content on the website is for serving both the search engine and audience.
Keywords optimized contents could help search engine have a good understanding of the pages and the domain. Afterward, the search engines have an ability to rank your pages for right search queries.
My experience sharing moment: This is why when I do keywords optimization for some new clients. We will experience a big drop of amount of ranked keywords, but we noticed that the keywords which got rank dropped are irrelevant to the client’s business. At the same time, we would see a couple of new keywords got ranked like 80 somewhere while those keywords are obvious searched by potential targeting audience, which is a good thing. This is why I never trust average ranks provided by Google console because it tells me nothing about the SEO performance while some of my clients love that and wanted to use it as a KPI, dude WTF.
Next, the content on the website is for serving your audience, your potential targeting audience, the people pay your real dollars.
Ranks or search engines never give you money back even though your pages rank No1. If your audience cannot go through the funnel from the top to the bottom, your content and your fantastic No.1 rank are just like a piece of shit. I think I wrote an article mentioning this point, please check it out. (link) So, we should never forget the main purpose of building a website which for your business instead of rank things.
After understanding the purpose of writing contents for your website, let’s chat about keywords optimization. As the title suggested, today’s topic is where to put the keywords.
I group the above list into two sub-group
Group 1:
- Page Description
- Page Title
- Header Tags
- Links (Internal links)
Group 2:
- Body Content
- URL
- Graphics
The first group is more for the search engine, and the second group is more for the audience.
Though search engines like Google are always working on fully understanding the pages, they are still not that smart as they expected. This is why we still need to work on branding keywords as soon as possible after websites got launched. I still believe search engine would put more weight on these four points which are Page Description, Page Title, Header Tags and links (internal links) because these two are all like summaries for the page. It is like when we do a presentation, we would like to say” hey guys, today’s topics are 1..2..3..4..”
In conclusion, these 4 places are definitely needed to insert some keywords which are matching to the page’s context and your business.
The second group is more for the users which means you should consider users experiences before doing keywords insertion job. People are saying like ‘IF I WRITE 2,000 BLOG, I CAN GET MORE KEYWORDS INSERTION OPPORTUNITIES’. Yes, you are right, but like how you can make people go purchase if you insert keywords in ‘shipping details’ with 100 words. That’s too much bro. You know, the major goal at that moment is pushing people to go purchase instead of keywords optimization. You know, SEO is a process which won’t directly impact your revenue. Please don’t blame at me, if I don’t insert keywords in these places~~ but If I leave alt tags empty, it will be my fault :)))))hhh
My experience sharing moment: people did a research and illustrate it through a line chart
If you read the way he collected the data, you will notice there are so many flaws for this result. In short, this line chart is not applicable to all the industry and business. It really depends, you know.
Remember, your blog got ranked in the first place is not only because of its length. If you are saying ”I did a research as shown in the line chart and you all should write a blog above 2,000 words”. This would be a logical problem.
First of all, different content serves different audience groups and different stage of potential customers. How dare you say that blogs should keep 2,000 words for getting a higher rank. For example, I need to write content for helping people to install our app. Just keep it easy reading and as short as possible because people will get mad or lose their patience if you write a blog which is super lengthy and super complicated. In the other hand, if I need to write a blog for helping people to understand the features of the app, in this situation, I probably would like to write a 2,000+ blog to explain detailed things about the app because for this group of audience, a longer content could help them to have a better understanding of the value of the product. And ultimately help them to make a purchase decision.
A very important word I learned in the last two years is “depends”. :)))hhh
