Steps of Preparation before Launching Your Website
Same all, welcome to Roy’s 2 mins sharing session.
Today we are going to chat the preparation before Launching Your Website?
I don’t like the way people thinking about SEO. It is not like “yeah, baby, let’s do SEO”. Man, I mean, it’s not gonna work. When I was an SEO newbie, my steps were so simple: finding keywords, do some backlinks, submit directories, and tracking ranks.
So here are the steps of preparation before launching your website.
1. Understanding the role of SEO playing for your business or Industry. I wrote an article specifically for this topic. Here is the link: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/matter-seo-your-business-roy-chen/ . You could simply ask yourself, why I need SEO? What are the benefits I could get from doing SEO? Is it cost-efficient which include your time and money?
*Note: After feeling working on SEO does benefit your business, you are ready to start preparing SEO work. First thing first, you gonna have a detailed plan. When we talk about the plan, doability is the most important thing. I have seen lots of plans people are making for their business, SEO, Paid ads, etc, but the plan just can’t be the reality. Making such sort of plan is just a way to waste your time. So just make sure your plan is doable based on the resources you are having right now.
2. Starting with website mapping
This is the starts and the most important step because all the following work will base on your website map. Lots of people ignore this step. They just go purchase a templated and put stuff into it. This is one step but it includes lots of time-consuming and important sub-steps which are the followings.
- Website structure (which is critical for SEO). In other words, the pages you put on your website and your targeting audience will appreciate it.
- Keywords research (you would have a keywords list which has been categorized in the end)
- Matching keywords with various website pages
3. Building your website
It is time to build your website after step 2. With the help of step 2, you will have a pretty clear structure of your website and how the audience will go through your website. Something you need to keep in mind when you are building your website:
- All the information on the site is playing a different role to convert your website traffics to be customers the people who pay dollars to you. Sometimes, some of my clients would put something THEY THINK it is important on their homepage while there is nobody consumes that information after deep analyzing the data collected by Google Tag manager and Hot Jar.Let’s say If something on your site did nothing why you still put it on your site? Just replace it to something else, something could push the traffics to the conversions.
- Crawlability & Accessibility & UX Why we are building a website? We are building a website for reaching out to a wide range of potential customers on the internet. If the search engine can’t understand your pages or can’t crawl your pages properly, are you building a site for fun? Hell no! So just check the website’s crawlability before making it looks fancy. Checking the website’s accessibility as well. Is the site or the content accessible on different browsers and devices (desktop, mobiles, tablets)? Do so, otherwise, you will lose a lot of opportunities because nowadays people are having a bunch of devices and having different habits of using browsers(Chrome, Firefox,). UX, check the website you just build with your colleagues, friends, families, anyone you know to make sure the site is comfortable and enjoyable for users to read.
- Tracking When we talk about tracking, you might be thinking about GA, Google Console, Facebook Pixel, Remarketing tag. Yeah, you are right. We definitely need to put these tracking codes on the site. You could Google those if you don’t know how to install those. So, what else? 1. Tracking something matter to your business like a form submission, video playing, etc. It really depends on your business. Tracking all the elements that your visitors might go through. 2. As the website is new, tracking is really important because you need to collect information from real visitors and to make some reactions to it. You can’t just make it and forget it. Right?
4. Last thing but super important
Are you really ready to lunch a new site?
- Who will help amplify your launch?
- Are press coverage, social coverage, or influencer outreach ready?
You definitely need a detailed plan of marketing your site before launching it. All the work should be done before launching date. I will cover this in the future roy’s 2 mins sharing, stay tune, my friends.
So, That is it.
